In this project, students used Adobe Illustrator (a vector-based drawing application) to create their own version of a special edition cereal brand release. Students centralized their ideas around a theme of their choice to create a brand identity and then the packaging for the product. This included a 3D prototype of the package to showcase as well.
The process that students used to create this project was as follows:
Select a Theme for the Project
Research the theme and imagery/word associations
Generate thumbnail sketches of logos to explore ideas
Draw the rough logo in Illustrator
Use self-evaluation, teacher & peer critiques to improve the work
Explore/Research current practices in cereal packaging
Take measurements of current boxes to create flat layout
Create content/Design the packaging with consideration to folds/overlaps
Use self-evaluation, teacher & peer critiques to improve the work
Print and Generate 3D prototype of packaging
Below are student samples of this project.
The theme for this project was Patriotism. The student created the logo, mascot, and ultimately the product packaging as well.
The theme for this project was princesses. The packaging for this has a crown that can be cut out and assembled for wearing.
The theme for this cereal brand was gaming and military.
