In this project, students used Adobe Photoshop (a raster-based image editing application) to create their own version of a movie poster for a film that they concept. This is an in-depth project that incorporates a great deal of ELA integration and Intellectual Property discussion. The students come up with the general plot for the film, including character studies and a written film synopsis before developing the poster.
The process that students used to create this project was as follows:
Discuss/Determine Genre for the film
Generate Plot Slope (including major elements of story - exposition, rising action, etc.)
Compose written synopsis of film
Generate character studies of all major characters in film
Royalty Free image research/gathering
Draw thumbnail sketches to explore composition
Generate draft of movie poster in software paying attention to poster conventions
Use self-evaluation, teacher & peer critiques to improve the work
Print life size movie poster
Below are student samples of this project.
